SNOW FUNGUS NOT NOVEL

We have recieved confirmation that the fruiting body of the mushroom Tremella fuciformis Berkeley will be added to the Novel Food Catalogue, as a not novel food ingredient.

It was mentioned in annex of the original Belgian Royal Decree on botanicals, which was prepared in 1996-1997 and is still mentioned on the list of edible mushroom of the current decree.

Likewise, it is mentioned on the list of traditional botanicals authorized in food in Germany, which is applies in Austria as well.

Tremella fuciformis also has a long history of safe food use in traditional Chinese and other East Asian cuisines.

The fruiting body contains mono- and polysaccharides (e.g. glucuronoxylomannan, xylose, mannose, and galactose), beta-glucans, N-acetylglucosamine, ergocalciferol (vitamin D2), and chondroitin.

Studies show that this mushroom can help to support immune function, and can have metabolic, cardiovascular, antioxidant and cognitive benefits.
